Mercer Markman's Obituary
Beginning History.
Mercer graduated from Herbert Hoover High School San Diego in June of 1939. That summer he went to work for Consolidated Aircraft eventually building B-24 Heavy Bombers. Mercer passed the test for pilot April of 1942 and began his training with the Army Air Corps in September. After training in B-17's and B-24's as co-pilot he trained his own crew as aircraft commander. Mercer signed for a brand new B-24, a 45 pistol, and given orders to report to Italy in April of 1944 where he got credit for 50 missions over German occupied territory earning a purple heart and 5 air medals. That was the beginning of a life long career as a pilot and teacher.
