Susan and Family,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on Mel's passing. I was so saddened to hear the news! Working for Mel during his time at Lyon Elementary was the highlight of my 39 years of teaching! His support and positive example was invaluable to me and he was always available to help when needed! I am so glad I was able to see him again at the recent opening of the new Lyon Elementary and meeting up with him in recent times was always a highlight for me. He will truly be missed! I joined Tacoma Principals well into Mel's years in that role. He was most welcoming and always made himself available to discuss my questions. We often talked about our roots...me ND and him Montana. A kind gentleman that will be missed. After Mel retired, I was able to have a brief "catch up" when we would both be attending Tacoma Musical Playhouse on the same evening. Blessings to Mel's family, Kathy Bergman

He was so loved by his students!
He was the Best Principal at Mary Lyon Elementary School where I attended.
I was so Blessed to see him at the Open House this last year and treasured getting a Hug from him!
He always had kind words and a wonderful smile! 💕
