It is with incredible sorrow that we announce the death of Melanie Mary Kondrat, aged 31, due to injuries sustained in a climbing accident. Mel was beloved by all who knew her. She had a wide circle of loyal friends, and a large Read Obituary
Melly, a friend from my time when she served in the Peace Corps in Morocco, suddenly came to mind. I searched for her name, only to discover with shock that she has passed away. My family held her dear for her compassionate soul and her efforts to learn Arabic and Tamazight just to connect with them. My heartfelt condolences go out to her sisters and parents. She will forever be remembered.
God bless Melanie on her final journey home. It was a beautiful service to celebrate a beautiful and well-lived, though too short, life.
Melanie was the youngest member of our annual "Chick Hiking Weekend" that ocurred each Summer. We were planning for this year's trip and looking forward to getting together again. Our hearts are broken for the loss of our beautiful friend. We will take Melanie's spirit with us and try our best to model her example of being fully present in life. Jenny and I were so blessed to have Melanie as a part of our lives, from the great amounts of fun Will and Mel had together in youth group going to Mexico, to Jenny and Mel growing up together at Cabrini and Bellarmine, carpooling and getting Starbucks enroute with their delicious Chonga Bagels.
While we were apart due to life and different colleges, we never stayed out of contact, meeting up just before the pandemic hit to get pizza together in Seattle. I'll never forget walking out of Serious Pie in South Lake Union and Mel seeing a Value Village sign a couple blocks away. She said, as she hugged us and we said our goodbyes, "I have some shopping to do before I go home."
Melanie was a truly good person, a beacon of happiness for everyone around her. We love you and will always keep you in our hearts.
