Mei Fung Ng's Obituary
Mei Fung Ng, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at age 72 on December 19, 2023 in Renton, Washington. Mei was born in Hong Kong to Churk Chung Wong and Yout Hoo Yu. Mei married the love of her life, Chester Ng in 1974. She moved to the United States in 1975. She lived in Tacoma for over 25 years before moving to Renton in 2002.
When Mei first moved to the United States, she worked as a seamstress and did housekeeping at a hotel. In 1984, Mei and her husband Chester opened their own restaurant called the Canton Cafe. The restaurant was a place that the whole family worked at for 16 years. After moving to Renton, Mei resumed working in housekeeping until she retired.
Mei was the core of her family. She was very involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives. She was proud of her children and loved to tell others about their accomplishments. Mei was well regarded by her friends and neighbors. Many who knew Mei often commented on how sweet, kind, and caring she was.
Being a grandmother was Mei’s most coveted role in life. She loved and adored her grandchildren more than anything else. They brought her so much joy. The sound of her grandchildren playing was always music to her ears. Equally, the grandchildren loved to be around their grandmother. They often sat with her while she watched her Chinese movies, one of her favorite pastimes. They enjoyed taking walks with her and most of all, they loved Grandma's cooking!
Mei is survived by her children and their spouses: Susan Ng (Brian Davis), William (Mary) Ng, and Nancy (Scott) Yeung; her grandchildren Jordan (Mitzy), Brielle, Spencer, Wyatt, Veronica, and Desmond. Her sisters, Mei Ling Eng, Rowena Li, and Mandy Yuen; several nephews and nieces; and many cousins and extended family members. Mei was predeceased by her husband, Chester and her brother, Kong Sang Wong.
Mei will be remembered most for her loving nature, generosity, kindness, and selflessness. She was also very grateful for everything she had. She was very humble and did not take things for granted. Even though Mei was a gentle person, she was resilient and had determination and strength that was very admirable. She touched so many lives. She is loved and will truly be missed more than words can describe.
