Mearlyn Faison Granberry was born on March 15, 1941, in Rhine, Georgia, to Elijah Faison and Bessie Odom. She graduated from Peabody High School in Eastman, Georgia, in 1959 and attended Fort Valley College for one year from 1959 to 1960. Mearlyn began her career with retail jobs in Chicago and Miami, where she eventually met the love of her life, Elijah Josephus (Joe) Granberry, in April 1968.
Mearlyn and Joe’s love story began in Miami, but they soon relocated to Tacoma, Washington, where they were married on October 11, 1969. They welcomed their first and only son, Addison Granberry, the following year in 1970. Mearlyn started working as a paraeducator in the Tacoma School District in 1972. She became a dedicated and treasured member of the educational community for 31 years, retiring from Downing Elementary in 2003.
Mearlyn enjoyed reading, playing pinochle with friends, dancing and going out to eat, playing slots at the casino, and watching basketball, especially her beloved LeBron James and Stephen Curry. She cherished her relationships with family and friends, calling to check on her loved ones every single day. She was an amazing mother, wife, aunt, grandmother and a great friend to many. She will always be remembered for her warm spirit, bright smile, and genuine kindness and care for those around her.
Mearlyn transitioned on July 18, 2024 in Gig Harbor, Washington. She is survived by her son, Addison Granberry, her granddaughters, Adaiya and Violet Granberry, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in eternity by her soulmate, Joe Granberry.
