Greg and Sharon. I wanted you to know that my entire family was saddened by Maxine’s passing. She was a great friend to my mom and Diane, after Russ and Gene were gone. Kind, caring, loving – there are so many positive phrases that could describe her – but good friend is the best.
Sharon, welcome to our world of orphans. Now you are the elder mother. (It’s a world I still have trouble getting used to.) Fortunately, I know that your mom’s sense of good will is deep in you DNA and you will continue her legacy of caring.
I can’t imagine Maxine without smiling – because that is how I always saw her. Energetic, happy, sometimes self-deprecating, always generous, perhaps a bit shy, she was always top of the list when Ev talked about people she loved.
Their generation lived in a time that taught then humility. They learned that prosperity and friendships were gifts that should not be squandered. And your mom – despite the remarkable gifts that she and Russ earned – never allowed that to be an issue that separated her from my mom. They were just Maxine and Ev, old, dear friends. To the end.

I have always been so fortunate to share so much of my life with Maxine and her family We had so many triumphs and a few tragedies to share. She and Russ & you were our first neighbors in Lakewood and what a time we had together. There are so many memories swimming around in my head that I can't pick and choose which to recall.

I feel so honored to have known Maxine and will always remember her for her beautiful smile and cheerfulness. As a child growing up with her daughter Sharon, her home was always an inviting and happy place to be. I will always cherish those wonderful memories of the Klauser family. What a wonderful lady! I knew her mostly through our mutual friend, Gloria, and we included Maxine in our yearly visit to Harbor Lights. I had her to dinner here at my house, too. We actually lived in the same general neighborhood, and I wish we had known each other, better. Anyway, I am glad I got to know her at all. She was not only sweet, but so much fun to be with. Also enjoyed visiting with her daughter, Sharon, as we would see each other in recent years here and there, as both our mothers needed increasing care. We really enjoyed the too few times we had together. Her generosity of spirit and deep knowledge and love for the community of Lakewood were enlivening. Her memory will always be honored in our home.
