Mavis Elizabeth Swift's Obituary
Mavis Elizabeth Smith Swift died in her home on Good Friday, April 18, 2003. Mavis was born in Tacoma on July 23, 1918 to Hugh Smith and May Doeg. A member of Mount Tahoma Baptist Church, Mavis loved the Lord. She is survived by her husband, William R Swift, whom she married in 1937; one son, William D, of Panama City Beach, Florida; two sisters, Beverly Trummert and Shirley Hazen of Tacoma; two brothers, Hugh L. Smith of Richland, Washington, and Phillip Smith of Tacoma; one brother-in-law, James Edwards of Tacoma; two granddaughters, Jeanine E. Swift Hobbs of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Jennifer J. Swift of Seattle; and one great-grandson, Terry Hobbs III of Panama City Beach, Florida. Mavis graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1937. She traveled extensively throughout the world with her husband, Bill, in the conduct of his military service. Mavis supported the military dependent system network with her leadership of various military post officersÂ' wives clubs and thrift shops. She enjoyed bowling and golf; bowling in as many as three leagues a week.Funeral services will be held at the Mountain View Valley Chapel at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2003. Graveside services will be held immediately thereafter at Mountain View Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Mount Tahoma Baptist Church or American Cancer Society.
