Maureen K Vaughan's Obituary
Maureen Katherine Vaughan passed away peacefully on October 19, 2015, following a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born to Eugene Morrison and Olga Batinovich on March 16, 1931, Maureen danced professionally at the Temple Theater as a child. She graduated from St. Leo's High School as Salutatorian in 1949. She then began her career in federal civil service at Fort Lewis, where she met Charles Vaughan. They married in 1952 and welcomed daughter Kerry the following year. Chuck and Mimi were able to enjoy many adventures together before his death in 1978.
Widowed at an early age, Maureen continued to travel throughout the world with friends for many years. In 1980, she welcomed her grandson Charles, who officially dubbed her "Meemer" which eventually morphed to "Meemo". He was the light of her life.
Meemo loved to read and possessed vast knowledge of many subjects; she was always a good choice to be on one's Trivial Pursuit team. She knew the musical theater inside and out, and for many years she and Kerry attended anything they could find at the Paramount and Fifth Avenue Theaters in Seattle. She did the New York Times crossword puzzle every day in ink, completing it in about 20 minutes (except for the French words; she needed to consult Kerry on those!) Her love of shopping was legendary.
Meemo retired in 1990, and was able to spend many years with Chas, Kerry, and her family and friends before Alzheimer's took her away from us. But even in the face of diminishing memory, she retained her sense of humor, and definitely her "attitude"....... just ask anyone at Hearthside Manor!
Meemo was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her sister Retha, and her mother Olga. Left to mourn daughter Kerry and grandson Chas and his wife Michelle, and several nieces and nephews.
Private interment was held October 30th; a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at Hearthside Manor for not only their care, but for their genuine compassion and support; they were a blessing to all of us.
