Knowing Matthew in 1st and 2nd grade was an amazing journey. He was one of my best friends. I know this is a few years late but I still care. I remember at recess in 2nd grade Matthew was in tears, crying, and nobody noticed. Olivia Harris, and I saw him and went to talk to him. He pushed other kids out of the way but me and Olivia. Molly Miller, Olivia Harris, and I were mainly the people that helped him through. Especially Molly. I will forever remember Matthew and the smile he put on everyone's faces as he walked by in the hallways showing his toughness.

It has been two months since my little man passed away and not a day goes by that something doesn’t remind me of him and I feel the aching in my heart for my loss. I see things that I know he would have loved to do or wanted to do and I feel the emptiness that is now there. I know this is because he is 1/3 of what made me who I am today. I miss my little man too much but I also know I can feel him with me in my heart and in my thoughts. I know this will never be easy for me but I know I have to keep going for my wife and his brother. They are the 2/3s left that make me who I am and what I will be, but that 1/3 that was Matthews will never be replaced or filled by anyone. It is a void that will be forever a part of me and I just hope I will still be able to gain wisdom and strength from that missing part. I miss you my little man but I also know you are with me in my heart and thoughts, I’ll see you when it is time for us to be together again.

In first and second grade I was in Matthew's class before I changed schools. He was my friend and Mr. Heagle put us in groups together alot, because he knew I liked to help Matthew. Matthew taught me to smile even when things weren't good. Today I am wearing the headband that Matthew gave me and it makes me think of him. For those of us who were lucky enough to know Matthew, he will forever be in our hearts.

I cannot pretend to know what it feels like to lose a child, grandchild, or brother. Reading such beautiful and wonderful memories about how Matthew touched so many people is wonderful beyond my ability to put into words. To Matthews parents, brother, and grandparents; you are in my thoughts and my prayers. I wish I were able to say or do something to ease your heartache. You are loved. And though not nearly so deeply as you must be, we're grieving with you.
