Maryann Millsap's Obituary
After a courageous battle with cancer, our Mother, MaryAnn Millsap born August 11, 1939 made her journey to heaven Sunday, January 29th to be with the Lord.A Â"tomboyÂ" girl when she was young enjoyed sports, cars and knew many of the wrestlers that performed at the old Tacoma Armory. She grew up in a loving home. Her father, William Emery (deceased) was at one time the president of the longshoremanÂ's union in Tacoma. Her Mother, Gertrude Â"GertieÂ" (deceased) was loved by all who knew her.Mom attended St. LeoÂ's & McCarverÂ's schools and graduated from Stadium High School. Lively & spirited Mom became a dance instructor at the U.S.O. club where she met & married our father. She enjoyed helping people the most and dedicated her life to caring for and teaching those that were less fortunate than her. After divorcing and as a single mother she went back to school. She became a Â"Program ManagerÂ" for the Â"VIPÂ" program for disabled clients at CPVTI for 12 years. She was appreciated and loved by those clients who she still receives calls and letters from. She earned many awards and took many courses to better herself including receiving her Â"Registered Nursing AssistantÂ" Certification.Continuing work in her field she was last employed by SLA and then Walsh & Assoc. where she took care of clients that she cared deeply for, Daniel, Alex, Mary & Robin. She was such a compassionate person and had a true gift in her chosen profession as the people she worked with and those she lovingly took care of were forever touched by her kindness. One of the most important accomplishments she was proud of is that of being a Mother.Barbara (Dan) Andrews, Ken (Sherry) Millsap, Linda Millsap (George Kobory), and being a Grandmother to Steven Millsap, Stephanie Millsap, Johnny Andrews, Stacy Millsap, Natalie Millsap and her Â"expected-soonÂ" grandson. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Barbara Gaumont (from Reno), her daughter Jan Colbert & family, son, Guy Gaumont & family, her nephew, George Emery Jr. & family, nephew Gayle Emery & family, nephew Gary Palagruti & family and the family of Gaylen Emery and numerous other cousins, nephews & nieces.Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother George Emery Sr., and his son, Gaylen Emery.Mom especially cherished her many friends. People were drawn to her love of life and continued spirituality. She was the type of friend that we all want and hope for. Some of these friends (and extended families) were in contact in person and by phone daily and her passing will most certainly create a void in their lives now. We have come to love and care for them also and will pray that God help them during this difficult time.A very special Â"thank youÂ" to MomÂ's dedicated Â"PaperboyÂ". She loved reading the News Tribune every day.According to her wishes there will be a Â"Celebration of LifeÂ" which we would like to invite family and friends to. This will be held @ 3:30 on Friday, February 3, 2006 at the LandMark Convention Center (Temple Theatre) 47 St. Helens Avenue (2nd & St Helens, 2 blocks south of Stadium H.S.)In lieu of flowers a donation made in her honor toÂ" The American Cancer SocietyÂ" would be appreciated.A special thank you to all the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Tacoma General and T.G. Oncology that helped our Mother these past 2 years. She gave us a true gift through prayer, laughter & tears which made our family bond even stronger. God Bless us all......
