Mary Rilla was a Sister-in-Law who soon became a Sister to me.
I remember my brother William's happiness with his family life and I attribute that to his loving relationship he had with his wife, Mary Rilla, children and grandchildren.
Throughout the years, whether we were based in Chicago, Tacoma or Opelika we visited each other and stayed in communication as often as our lives permitted.
Mary Rilla raised a beautiful and caring family which really was the ultimate testament to her life. May she now rest in peace.

Aunt Mary Rilla was such a wonderful person! She always had a welcoming spirit whenever I was in her presence.
Across the miles, we could catch up in a matter of minutes the status of our expanding family, a family member's health, politics, or our favorite debate of which greens( turnips only, mustard and turnips, or collards only) combined to make the best pot of greens, or who made the best hot water cornbread...Mary Rilla felt my mom, Mary Ethel Smith made the best and we all felt, including my mom, that Mary Rilla made the best!
Our memories and pictures will sustain us now. Aunt Mary Rilla will be greatly missed by all of us. May God bless the soul of Mary Rilla Fowler.

Mom I wish to thank you for being a wonderful mother to not only me but to every child you had. You are a very special person who I have had the opportunity of learning from and being able to share many special moments together. You always made yourself available to any of us when we called. You put your kids and grandkids above all. There were many times in which you did not agree with the way our lives were going, but you knew and had faith in the lord and us that we would all see it through. The strength you have provided this family all these years is admired and appreciated. As Tupac would say; Lady, don't cha know we love ya, Sweet lady. I remember back in the day when Gramma would always pop my with "sting" lol cause I was always in the pound cake and some how some way she would always know it was me even thought there were alot of us in the kitchen. I miss you gramma alot and even though I wasn't around after mom died there isnt a day that passed my way where i always had you on the brain. you inspired me in so many ways thats its to the point where everything i do i have seen you do or you have done to me and i do it to my closed friends now! lol. you are the best thing that has ever happened to me and i am glad to have you as a gramma. and i agree with cousin anthony lol when we would make fun of you when you said "R" and then the way you would break up our fights with poppy on family holidays cause the boys would always gang up on me lol. i still love them though. you taught to be as one and to never let nobody tell you different about yourself cause you aint raise no dumb chillens! lol i know you are smiling and shining down on us. now you are with poppy, mom, nee and the rest of our siblings. tell them i said hi and now i can sleep better at night knowing that none of you are suffering anymore.

My thoughts and prayers are with my cousins, the Fowlers. We have enjoyed many years of love, fellowship and celebration with Mary Rilla. She will continue to be in our thoughts and memories and we will continue to celebrate her life. I look back fondly to the summers spent in Alabama with my parents. My mother loved her favorite cousin, Mary Rilla and my dad cherished her and the beautiful friendship they shared. Peace and blessings always.
