Mary E. Phillips' Obituary
Mary Ellen Phillips, age 93, passed away on December 8, 2017 in Tacoma, Washington. She was born January 22, 1924 in Greensburg, Indiana to the late Lonnie and Margaret Martin. She married her husband, Frank Phillips, in May of 1944. Then they begun to travel the world on the Army's expense. After seeing the sites of the world, they fell in love with the beautiful Evergreen state and decided to spend their golden years in the Lakewood, WA.
Along their travels they brought home a few souvenirs, starting with Margret as the oldest child, Nancy was next in the line up. Followed by their first son Walter, Ruth was tagging along behind. Frank taking the second son position and Bruce to tie up the boys and girls. Then "SURPRISE", Robin came along to win it for the girls!. Making their loving family complete.
With a family this huge comes with many fond memories. Like going fishing at the pond, playing on the foothills of Mount Rainier, poker nights and Sunday country side road trips. She also competed against Dad for who served the best dinner dish. (You never voted against Mom) Life couldn't be any more happier.
As the years rolled on, the kids all grew older, had their own families and she was very content with how she had lived her life. At this point, she was beginning to feel lonely from losing dad in 1986. But never showed the worry on her face. She was very religious about visiting Dad's grave site until she grew tired and she could no longer go. So at night, she would talk to him about how her day went and how much she missed him, before she went to sleep.
Now she is playing euchre with Dad, Granny, Roy and you can bet they are arguing over the cards! Or who is making the best dish now?!? Or Just playing old country songs on the radio, while she eternally dances with Dad.
Mary is survived by her 7 children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Mary, will be held 1:00PM Wednesday, December 20, 2017 in the Garden Chapel. Visitation from 12:00PM-1:00PM. Interment to follow at Mountain View Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Lakewood.
