Mary Overland's Obituary
Mary Jane Overland, RN Our beloved mother and grandmother Mary Overland passed away peacefully March 9. She was born March 30, 1925 to Mamie McGuire and Arthur Smith in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Due to the loss of her mother at a very young age, Mary was raised in the convent under the care of Sister Angela. After graduation, Mary reunited with her father and 2 brothers, Hubert and Paul, in Tacoma. Mary was a registered nurse; graduating from Tacoma General Hospital. She retired from TGH in 1987, having enjoyed many years in Labor and Delivery. She was also the recipient of 2 awards from the Tacoma Family Medicine Residency Foundation. Mary loved many things: Jesus, her family, her church, Skip Bo and Pinochle, and cats. Mary was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church; attending most recently Holy Rosary. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Martin in 2005. She is survived by her children John, Karen, Kevin, Mitzie and Rod; her grandchildren Ryan, Karley, Erica, Gregg, Colin, Weston, Chad, Anna, and Colby, and many other family and friends. A special thanks to Dr. Paula Schulze, Elizabeth, her caregiver, Mary Lynn, her nurse from Sound Options, and Father John for his recent home visit to her. The Rosary will be held at Holy Rosary Church, 6 PM on March 19; viewing at Mountain View Funeral Home, noon to 4:30 on March 19; and services in the Mountain View Valley Chapel at 3 PM on Friday, March 20, 2009.
