Mary Lorraine Grinkley Edwards
A beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend passed away at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle on November 9, 2010. Mary was born February 20,1952, in Beaufort, South Carolina to Lola and the late Jonas Grinkley. Mary graduated from Beaufort High School and went on to receive her Masters in Education. Mary began her career as a teacher in her hometown of Beaufort, where she worked up until she met and married the late Oliver Edwards of Bluffton, SC. Their marriage brought them to Washington and Mary to Reed Elementary School in Tacoma, where she taught up to the time of her passing.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Malaika Edwards of University Place who was the joy, pride, and love of their lives. Mary was an extremely positive person with an innovative mind. She approached life with vigorous tenacity and a never ceasing attitude that life was meant to be fun. She viewed any obstacles as a gift to extend one's creativity of how to maneuver into a new direction. Mary was a determined, easy going, humorous teacher and friend. Her generosity never ceasing. Mary had a way of making each of us feel so special. She always made us laugh, and she was a kind listener. She will be loved and missed by all.
