Mary C. Link's Obituary
Mary Catherine Link, 92, died peacefully Thursday, October, 3, 2013, at her home at the Sand Point Senior Care Center in Seattle, WA.
She was born Dec. 11, 1920, in Pomona, KS, to Alice and William Johnston. On May 18, 1946, she married Norvell (Steve) Link and they began their life together travelling the country and the world with the US Air Force. Mary was a kind and gentle person whose family and friends came first; her’s was the quiet presence everyone loved. While primarily a homemaker, she spent many years volunteering for the Family Services Thrift Shop at McChord Air Force Base. She loved meeting and talking with the young families who came in and was awarded McChord AFB Volunteer of the Year for her exceptional service. Mary also enjoyed sewing and quilting and completed many projects for friends and family. Wherever she and Steve lived, they were active members of the local square dance clubs. In addition, she thoroughly enjoyed her monthly meetings with the McChord AREWS Club, getting together with friends over lunch.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Schwantes (Michael) of Cary, IL, son, William Link (Nancy Thorpe), of Seattle, WA, daughter-in-law, Gail Cameron of Astoria, OR, and grandchildren, David Schwantes of San Francisco, CA, Stella Spracklin Link of Portland, OR, and Andrew Cameron Link of Astoria, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, on May 26, 2010, and her son, Michael Link, on August 27, 2013.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, Oct. 12 in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd., SW, Tacoma, WA 98499, (253) 584-0252. Viewing is 1 hour prior to the service.
