Mary J. Veira's Obituary
Mary J. Veira
11/23/1944 - 9/30/2008
Devoted mother, wife, sister, and friend to many, passed away after a long struggle with emphysema. She will be greatly missed, as she was a spark for many and the stable glue for some others. She had the distinct opportunity of raising 2 sons in 2 separate generations, 20 years apart. With both sons she was highly prized for her wisdom and influence, her balance, and her willingness to accept "things" that were different than how she grew up. Mary was born here in Tacoma, and she was married and divorced early in life, but out of that time came her first son Rick in 1960. She moved to Alaska with her parents, married again a few years later, and lived there until a divorce forced her to move back to Tacoma in 1977. She married again in 1979, and gave birth to her second son, Ed, in 1980. She lived a frontier life and a city life, she loved and lost all three of her husbands, but she continued on because she had a tenacity to give life all she had, and wouldn't take much grief from anyone. She had a wonderful talent for drawing and painting, carpentry, craft work, hunting, fishing, and finally forwarding emails with the best of them! Her hero was Maxine of comic lore. She is survived by her 2 sons, Ed and Rick, brother Bud, 8 grandchildren: Harmony, Heather, Haylee, Hannah, Hope, Hosanna, Hudson, Helayna; aunt Doris, and various nieces, nephews, and friends.
