Mary and her husband Bill were a very unique team. I knew them through their active involvement in the transitioning of the former Northern Pacific Railway road bed into what is now Pierce County's Foothills Trail.
Mary wrote grant requests for funding to refurbish and repurpose 8 bridge structures beginning in McMillin out to and through South Prairie and one in Wilkeson. Together they planned out materials needed, recruited the assistance of Fort Lewis Engineers and Union Pile Drivers, as well as fellow Foothill Trail Coalition members to perform the needed tasks.
They were quite a loving couple that I am very blessed to have known.
If I am correct, she also worked for the Northern Pacific and Bill advanced from Fireman to Engineer after graduating from Stadium during WW2.
