Mary H. Ochs' Obituary
Mary H. Ochs
Mary was born in Aberdeen South Dakota on July 20, 1918 to Henry and Clara Cottrell. She moved to Tacoma Washington in 1942 with her husband Frank and son Bill (Frank W). They settled in the McKinley Hill area of Tacoma where she lived in the same house for 59 years. In 2002 she moved to Gibson House.
Mary lit up any room she entered and few could forget her having met her once. She loved angels and always kept one pinned to her collar, near her heart. Mary was the first female store manager in the state for the Liquor Control Board and was very active in many organizations including: Pierce County Democratic Women's League; Pierce County Democratic Luncheon Club; 29th District Democratic Club; RPE (Retired Public Employees) Club and the 1918 Club. She was a member of the South Tacoma Business Association and for many years worked as a Poll Worker on Election Day. She belonged to Bethlehem Lutheran and belonged to the ladies circle. Mary was a long time Democrat, always lending a hand at fundraisers and other events. For years after her retirement she could be found walking around the Tacoma Mall in the mornings
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 1988 and her brother Bill Cottrell and her sister Thelma Walberg. She leaves behind her son Frank (Bill) Ochs and Grandchildren Dawn (Bart) Anderson, Brian (Karen) Ochs, Mark Ochs and Great Granddaughter Jessica Anderson.
Thank you so much to the staff of Allenmore Hospital for their gentle care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church's piano fund or the American Heart Association. Memorial Services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 101 East 38th St, Tacoma Washington, Saturday April 4th at 6:00 p.m.
