Mary Elizabeth Syverson's Obituary
Mary E. Syverson
Mary Elizabeth Syverson, Libby as her family and friends referred to her, passed away on January 23, 2009, just a couple weeks shy of her 96th birthday. Born in Benson, Minnesota on February 8, 1913 to Daniel and Mary Carney, Libby, along with her younger sister Virginia, enjoyed the life of growing up in a small town. Eventually, Libby caught the eye of a young man in Benson named Arthur M. Syverson, and on August 3, 1939 she married the love of her life. Shortly thereafter, the newly married couple moved to Tacoma, WA. The early 1940s brought lots of exciting moments to Art and Libby, most notably the addition of their sons Peter and Edward. The Syverson family enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout the years like camping and hiking, and very much looked forward to these events and the times spent together. When their sons were just entering their 20s, a tragic and unexpected auto accident took the lives of both Peter and Eddy. Art and Libby understandably never quite got over the loss of their boys, but did all they could to enjoy what they still had left, each other. In 1987, Art too bid his farewell after a long bout with mesothelioma. With the love and support of family and friends throughout the past 20 years, Libby's strong spirit, sense of humor and determination kept her going until she could join her beloved family and see her three favorite men again. Services to celebrate Libby's life will be held on March 27th at 11 am at MountainView in their Garden Chapel.
