Mary A. Medcalf's Obituary
Mary A. Medcalf February 23, 1923 - November 18, 2012 Mary was born in Graham, WA of Polish and Ukrainian immigrants, one of seven children raised on a farm, loving to play outdoors. She attended Kapowsin High School and graduated from Leland High School in 1941. Mary was a USO girl when she met the love of her life, Richard Medcalf, at a dance at Fort Worden, and married in 1943. She began her travels as a military spouse, enjoying the opportunity to see Europe and many other duty assignments. During Richard's military career they raised 5 children. When Richard retired they built their family home in Lakewood, WA. Mary, Richard and their family were members of the United Methodist Church in Lakewood. Mary enjoyed volunteering her time as a Sunday School teacher. Her love of teaching led her to a career in Early Childhood Education. She retired from the Clover Park School District in 1985. After her retirement she devoted much of her time to raising and caring for her grandchildren Tani and Leslie. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Richard and daughter Carol. She leaves behind her daughter Marguerite (Howard), son Michael (Elaine), daughter Gail (Tom) and daughter Janel, nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Sunday, November 25, 2012 in the Mountain View Celebration of Life Chapel. The family suggests remembrances be sent to the Lakewood United Methodist Church, 6900 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
