Marvin Lewis Young's Obituary
Marvin Lewis Young 64, died August 26, 2016
Marvin was born at the Pierce County Hospital in Tacoma, Washington on March 30, 1952 to Marion R. "Bud" and Rose Young. He attended Roosevelt Elementary, Gault Jr. High and Lincoln High School.
Shortly after high school Marvin married his first wife Evelyn (Rhoads). When their daughter Deanna was born you couldn't ask for a prouder father. And the same was true when his daughter Tina and son Jon came into the world. Nothing was more important to Marvin than his children. As they moved through the stages of their life, Marvin was always their sturdy anchor and source of fatherly support. He took great pride in his conservative values, he rarely missed a day at work and always paid his own way.
Marvin was always known to be a hard worker. He was very young when he started working for a small trucking company. The owner, Bob Nylander, could see Marvin's potential and helped him progress from a general helper, to a big rig driver with diesel mechanic skills and eventually to overseeing the day to day operations of the business. When Mr., Nylander died the business was forced to close. Marvin quickly found work with one of Bob Nylander's customers Acme Farms Inc in Seattle.
Marvin started driving trucks for Acme when it was a small business with just a handful of employees and relatively light traffic in Seattle. Marvin liked driving, but always hated being stuck in traffic. So, as the business grew to over 300 employees and the traffic in Seattle became more and more difficult Marvin decided to get off the road and accepted a promotion to shipping dispatcher. There he was able to use his truck diving and shipping knowledge to help organize and dispatch the company trucks so they would travel over the most effective and timely routes. Unfortunately, the ever growing problem with traffic congestion in and around Seattle could not be overcome. The Acme trucking business came to a slow but inevitable end.
Marvin went to work for Buffelen Woodworking in 2000 as their Shipping Supervisor. He brought to Buffelen his shipping and dispatching experience, along with an extremely strong work ethic and an uncommon sense of loyalty to his employer. He was proud to have worked there for sixteen years without missing a day of work.
Marvin married his second wife, Sheri (Keller) in 1980. He adopted and raised her two children, Paul and Heather, into adulthood. Marvin and Sheri had a strong and loving relationship. They enjoyed meeting with friends, playing pool and were very active in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Marvin served multiple terms as the Worthy President of the Eagles Aerie #3. Sheri passed away in 2005.
The family wants to give a special thanks to Dr. Mary Groda Lewis for helping Marvin throughout his battle with Lung Cancer; To the Management of Rhine Demolition for their understanding and support to the caregivers; And to Marvin's good Hawaii friends Bob and Hanna for the friendship and love they provided.
Marvin Lewis Young was preceded in death by his wife Sheri, infant son Scotty, father Marion R. (Bud) Young, and brother Robert. Survived by his mother Rose Mary Young; Brothers Dennis (Susann), Rick (Jo) and Randy; children Deanna (Anthony) Peters, Tina Young, John (Brandie) Young; adopted children Paul and Heather; sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren
