Blessings were given; prayers were offered. Then I received a call from my last living brother on June 16, 2008 with the news that his beloved wife Haunani Marvel Young Kaili slipped from this earthly frail existence to eternity. I immediately felt a deep sense of loss but not as much as Harrom felt for the love of his life as I heard and witness it through his heart. Knowing that her destiny was in the hands of the Lord, however, I have felt our mood shift from grief to gratitude. Like all of you I have known this hour was drawing close. Living forever is not for this time no matter how much we might want it to be so. I have wondered how I would feel when the news came. I feel as if I can hear rejoicing on the other side! It is times like these when I am so certain that the world on the other side of the veil is so very close. I am very grateful I have been acquainted with my beautiful sweet sister-in-law, wished I did it more.
Her impact as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, neighbor, friend and possessing an awesome gift of her Hawaiian culture and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she will be greatly missed.
I have seen how devoted, unselfishness and dedicated she was to Harrom her eternal husband. She loved her children and mo’opuna’s (grandchildren) dearly with a keen awareness of their needs. Whenever she talks about them her eyes always beamed and her countenance of humility and grace with a great beautiful smile on her face as you see her memorable picture knowing that God will be watching over them in her absence.
This breast and bone marrow cancer caused her family to realize that not only is life precious but that it can also be short. No matter how well prepared you think you are to lose a sweetheart or a parent it is always difficult to let them go. The world has lost an angel and heaven has gained a glorious spirit. My dear brother and her sweet children remember this and take literally the Lord’s invitation, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.†Matthew 11:28–30.
Haunani, thank you for your compassion, your goodness, and your generosity. We will also remember how beautiful you sang and now we know you are singing with the choir of heavenly angels.
Blessings will continue to be given; prayers will continue to be offered for the strength of her loving family. May comfort be shed upon those who love and miss her the most. May God bless her family.
We will miss your sweet spirit and humor. With sadden and joy at the same time. We love you...Till we meet again.
