Martin S. Holland
Martin completed his journey to the Lord on November 3, 2008. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 60 years, Lorraine, as well as his loving family. Martin was born on January 20, 1921 in Tacoma to Peter and Lena Holland. He attended Lincoln High School where he participated in football and wrestling. After high school Martin joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, an experience he proudly recalled throughout his later years. Martin served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, traveling to many different parts of the world. Martin is well remembered by many for his propagation of the iris variety, Sweet Lena, named after his mother, which is now widely grown throughout North America and many foreign countries as well. Martin worked at Boeing for many years, and then for Enterprise Car Rental. Martin is also survived by sons Tim Holland (Linda) of Arlington, Joel Holland (Mari Lou) of Puyallup, Mark Holland (Shar) of Bonney Lake and daughters Sharon Carlstrom (Tom) of Gig Harbor, Carol Reindl (Wes) of Napa, CA and Cindy Connelly (Mike) of Bonney Lake, 14 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Gilbert and Leonard, both of Vancouver WA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8 at 4 pm in the Valley Chapel at Mountain View Cemetery with a celebration of his life to follow in the Willow Room of the reception center. Martin generously supported organizations that helped children around the world. In lieu of flowers, please consider the same.
