Martin Linnerud's Obituary
Martin Linnerud Born in Oslo, Norway on October 31, 1915, Pastor Martin Linnerud passed away peacefully on April 3, 2008. Martin was born to lead people to Christ through his preaching and music. At the age of 92, he has finally reached the place he preached about his entire life. In 1946, he married Otilie Sortland and shortly after, they decided to follow the Norwegian immigrants to America. Over the next thirty years, he pastored several immigrant churches in Brooklyn, New York, West Orange, New Jersey and Tacoma, Washington. After retiring, he led monthly Norwegian meetings at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tacoma, as well as guest speaking at Norwegian church services in Seattle. In addition to his passion for the Lord, he was well-known for his many musical abilities, such as singing and playing the accordion. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Otilie of Tacoma; his brother, Bjorn Linnerud, of Oslo, Norway; four children, Rita Linnerud, Arne Linnerud, Irene (Richard) Westgard, and Paul (Tami) Linnerud; and three grandchildren, Kristina Westgard, Michelle Westgard and Chris (Alyssa) Famy. Funeral services to be held on Friday, April 11th, 2008 at 11:00am in the Mountain View Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA, 253-584-0252.
