Martha Maria Smith's Obituary
Martha was born in Saalfelden, Austria on June 24, 1929. She left her beloved homeland and family to begin married life with Daniel Smith on April 21, 1955, and had the good fortune to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Daniel served in the military and after years of traveling, the couple settled in Lakewood, Washington.
Martha and Daniel blessed the world with 4 children, Sandra, Steven, Susan and Silvia. They in turn gave her the gift of 6 grandchildren, Kevin, Vincent, Erik, Derek, Sarah and Steven.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Martha had a soft spot in her heart for animals. She cherished her Doberman Pinchers, Jasmine and Lucky. But it was her rescued Greyhound, Paloma, who was near and dear to her heart. She also had many feline “children” that she adored. Martha supported Pierce County Animal Welfare in University Place.
An avid walker, this was an activity when Martha shared special time with her dogs, family and friends. A gracious hostess, she loved to entertain, and so enjoyed putting the coffee pot on and serving pastries to her guests.
Her beauty was reflected in her love for flowers and her garden. Every year each of her children gave her a hanging flower basket for Mother’s Day which she nurtured and treasured throughout the year.
The ultimate bargain hunter, Martha was the definitive fashionista. She had impeccable taste and her own sense of glamour. But if it wasn’t on sale, it wasn’t worth purchasing!
Martha passed away peacefully on July 20, 2015. Her inner light shone in her radiant smile and she lit up a room with her refined beauty. She was a lovely, generous woman who will always be cherished and live in the hearts of her friends and family, where she will be remembered with love.
To honor Martha, donations may be made to an Animal Rescue of personal choice.
