Martha T. Mayo's Obituary
Martha T. Mayo, 87 passed away in Ruston, Washington on September 20, 2023. Martha will be missed and is loved by many family and friends. Martha T. Mayo was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 11, 1935 and passed away September 20, 2023 in Tacoma WA. She graduated from Bessemer High School in 1954 and from the University of Alabama with a degree in elementary education in 1957. She taught first grade at Maxwell AFB two years and began teaching with DOD military schools in various locations. Woodbridge VA became her home where she taught till 1991 retirement, moving to Locust Grove VA in 2001.
Martha is survived by her sister Sarah L Mayo Woodall, nieces Susan Woodall Lane, Elizabeth (Terry) Bumgarner, Robin (Mark) Conner of Tacoma, WA and Carolyn Mayo Petagno of Wake Forest NC. Nephews Sterlon Blanchard Mayo of Steamboat Springs CO; John Mayo, Orlando FL; David Nixon, Sterling VA; four grandnieces and four grandnephews; six great grandnieces and seven great grandnephews. She is survived by many treasured cousins and friends.

Martha was preceded in death by her Soulmate Robert J Shea July 8,2022; her parents Sterlon Blanchard and Sarah “Effie” Vines Mayo; her sister Katharene Ann (Riley) Nixon; her brother Sterlon Blanchard Mayo.
Shortly after Bob’s death Martha moved to Tacoma to be near her sister and 3 nieces.
