Martha Louise Lee's Obituary
Martha Louise Lee, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, auntie and friend passed away in the early morning of June 23, 2023.
Martha was born on January 25, 1935, in Tuscumbia, Alabama to James C. Green and Pearlie L. (Barton) Green. She graduated from Trenholm High School in 1953 and served as Class Treasurer. She received an A.A. degree in Social Sciences from Daniel Payne Junior College. In 1956 she enrolled at Tacoma’s Vocational School (now Bates) and completed the Practical Nurses program. Martha worked as an LPN at Tacoma General Hospital for 20 years.
In 1955, she moved to Tacoma, WA where she met and married her husband, Milton Lee. They shared 50 years together. Milton and Martha settled into their house on Melrose Street and raised their family. Martha loved her home and lived there for 62+ years. She was also a devoted member of Allen A.M.E. Church.
“Mot”, as she was affectionally known, loved hearing from family and friends. Her phone would ring off the hook every day. Visitors were constant. Nothing thrilled her more than having visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time at the EQC with her sisters. Her favorite slot machine was the Triple Dragon. On several occasions a panic call would go out asking if anyone had seen momma only to learn she was at the casino with the gang.
Martha will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Milton Lee, her parents, 1 sister and 3 brothers. She is survived by her four children; Horace Lee (Crystal), Angel Lee Phillips (Mark), Jason Lee, and Dennis Lee; two sisters, V. Jeanette Evans and Mary Reed; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
