Marshall L. Wescott's Obituary
Marshall (Marsh) L. Wescott passed away May 20, 2013 in Lakewood, WA at 94.
He was born January 30, 1919, and spent his early years growing up on a farm in Edgewood. He graduated from Stadium in Tacoma in 1938. He waited for his sweetheart, Dorothy, to graduate in 1941, and they married soon after. Their loving marriage lasted 71 years until he passed away.
He had a beautiful singing voice and sang on local radio and at dances when he was a young man. He spent 3 years serving his country in the US Army as a medic in WWII from 1943-1946, for which he was awarded the Combat Medical Badge and the Bronze Star. After the war, he went to school and ran his own business, Evergreen Cleaners in Tacoma. Then he changed careers to professional sales, in which he excelled and loved - Corey's Furniture, White Front, Seattle Pacific Sales, where he retired at 65. He then spent several years working part-time at Appliance Distributors. His strong work ethic and integrity earned him success and a good reputation.
His farm roots never left him as he tended the garden that he loved. He loved serving at Trinity Church of Tacoma, and spent a number of years in Bible Study Fellowship. He was devoted to his wife and family. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, two daughters, Linda (Casey) and Karen (Gower), two sons, Steve and Dean, 8 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He battled Alzheimer's the last few years of his life.
The family extends a special thank you to Jade Park adult family home in Lakewood. The love and care provided during "Grandpa's" final few years was incredible, and very much appreciated by his family. He knew Jesus Christ as his Savior, and we know that he is now in heaven, as promised in Scripture: "No eye as seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those that love Him." I Corinthians 2:9.
A private military funeral service for the family will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA, with a picnic for family and friends planned for later this summer. We will never forget you.
