Mark Anthony Croce Jr.
CSM Mark Anthony Croce Jr. (Ret) passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 15, 2011. He was born June 16, 1944 to Mark Sr. and Fanny Croce (Nero) in Cleveland Ohio. Mark is a 1962 alumni of Cathedral Latin High School and BA in 1981 from University of Maryland. He proudly served his country for twenty-four years in the US Army, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major (CSM). During his military career he was decorated with two Purple Hearts in 1968 during Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, he dedicated thirteen years to protecting and serving locally as a Correctional Officer for the Washington State Department of Corrections, where he was awarded Officer of the Year in 1995. Mark loved his daily crossword puzzles, playing golf, and following his favorite sports teams, but most of all spending time with his family. He was caring, fun-loving, and well-respected by all. Mark's smile and sense of humor brought joy to all around him. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Vera (Gjivanovich); four children, Gina Leigh (Bryan), Hallee Sanders (Jason), Margo Brady (Evan), and Joey Croce (Naomi Hawkins); four grandchildren, Max Jr., Anthony, Devan, and Isabella; as well as many extended family and friends. Viewing will be held from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, 22 July 2011 at Mountain View Funeral Home, Lakewood, WA. A Catholic Mass will be held on 23 July 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Lakewood, WA. CSM Croce will be buried at the Tahoma National Cemetery on Monday, 25 July 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Donation suggestion: Franciscan Hospice Palliative Care or Orphanage in Haiti.
