Marietta Jean (Hein) Miller's Obituary
Marietta Jean (Hein) Miller passed away peacefully on November 7th 2024 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington surrounded by her close and loving family. Marietta was 102 years young at her passing. She was a long time resident of Spanaway, Washington where she built her dream home. Marietta was born in Durham, Marion County, Kansas on July 29th 1922. Marietta was the third child of three from parents Daniel Edward Hein and Hannah Joan Schlotthauer. Marietta’s two elder siblings preceding her in passing are Lloyd Ellsworth Hein and Frederick Owen Hein. Marietta had two sons, Pritchard Frederick Miller Jr, surviving, and Gary Gene Miller who passed in 2023.
Marietta is survived by son Pritchard Frederick Miller Jr, grandson Michael, granddaughters Aubrey-Lynn Marie (Miller) Cruzan and Kristine, great-grandchildren Kaylie, Jackson, Marissa, Chanelle, James, Joey, Devin, Tyler, Reid and Bradley, great-great grandchildren Isabella, Brooklynn, Oaklee, Taytum, Scarlett, Jayden, Jerren, Addy, Carson and Braxton.
Preceeding in death were parents Daniel and Hannah (Schlotthauer) Hein, brothers Lloyd and Frederick, son Gary and grandchildren Joshua, Pritchard John, and Donovan.
Marietta grew up on her father’s 160 acre farm in Marion County, Kansas. After completing her primary school education and then High School graduation, Marietta moved to Wichita, Kansas to attend Business College to learn the skills of office management. After graduating Business College, while working in Wichita, Kansas, Marietta met her soon to be husband, Pritchard Frederick Miller. Pritchard was stationed nearby serving in the US Army Air Force. Marietta and Pritchard were married on July 4th 1946 and she and the family accompanied him throughout his career in the US Air Force of 20+ years. Her and her husband’s travels were extensive. While Pritchard was serving in the US Air Force, they traveled throughout the USA and Europe. While Pritchard was stationed in Chateauroux, France, the family traveled extensively in Europe, vacationing in France, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, and Germany to highlight a few. Marietta loved life and experiencing all that life had to offer. She enjoyed traveling, going to movies and plays, dancing, dining and entertaining with her close friends and family. She enjoyed helping family members in so many ways sharing both time and treasure, often at great sacrifice to herself. Marietta was known to be a loving and caring person to all that knew her. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her both family and friends alike.
Marietta had a long career in the Civil Service at various US Air Force bases where her husband was stationed. She retired from Civil Service after 30+ years, ending her career at McChord AFB, Tacoma, Washington. She ended her career as a specialist in Manpower and Materials Management.
Marietta was a long time member of the AMVETS Ladies AUXILIARY, Post 5 and then Post 1, both in Tacoma. She held various offices within the organizations over the years and spent many hours attending organization meetings both local and state wide. She volunteered several thousand hours over the years caring for the veterans needs at American Lake Veterans Hospital in Lakewood, Washington and other locations around Tacoma where veterans needed a helping hand.
A funeral service will be held from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM on December 7th 2024 at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd, Lakewood, WA 98499 in the Garden Chapel.
A Celebration of Life will be held following services from 12:45 PM to 2:30 PM at the ‘Celebration of Life Center’ at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery.
