Marietta Berry's Obituary
Marrietta Berry, 81, passed away October 15, 2003 in Tacoma, Washington. She was born October 10, 1922 to Herbert and Irene (Richards) Piper in Valentine, Nebraska. She graduated from Valentine High School in 1940, where she was Miss Cherry County. Marietta married Donald Berry on July 11, 1946 in Seattle, Washington, and they were married for 57 years. They lived in Tacoma and Seattle before moving to their home in Orting, Washington when Don retired. She worked for the Navy during World War II at the Tacoma Naval Annex and later worked for Brill Cabinetry as a bookkeeper and for H & R Block. During her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, canning, and making jellies and jams. One could not leave her house without receiving a jar of jelly. She was known for her generosity, always keeping busy, and her quick smile and humor. She would make pine cone wreaths to donate to her grandchildrenÂ's school, and she was also was a volunteer for the Orting Health Clinic and Graham Senior Center. Surviving are her husband, Don, at their home in Orting; her son, Vaughn of Belfair, WA; her daughters and their families, William and Roxianne Morris of Brinnon, WA, and Richard and Sheilah Harlow of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren, who she loved dearly; two surviving brothers and sisters, Richard Piper of Sunset, UT and Terry Piper of Little River, SC, Maxine Means of Gig Harbor, WA, and Virginia Olmsted of Cary, NC; and 17 nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 12 P.M. until 9 P.M., Wednesday, October 22nd through Friday, October 24th at Mt. View Funeral Home.A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, October 25, 2003 at the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Her family and friends will miss her cheerful and loving nature.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Hope Heart Institute, 1710 E. Jefferson ST., Seattle, WA 98122.
