Marie Stewart's Obituary
Agnes Marie Stewart, also known as Matia and Yaya, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2024, at the age of 82 in Tacoma, Washington. Agnes was born on March 26, 1941, in Radford, Virginia, to Ruth and Oscar Leslie. She was lovingly known as Marie to her beloved husband Lynn, with whom she shared 65 wonderful years of marriage.
Marie had a vibrant personality and a wide range of interests. She was a nurturing and welcoming person who wore many hats throughout her life. Her endearing titles of Matia and Yaya represented the love and care she gave to those she treated as her own. Marie had a passion for conversation, hugs, cute and pretty things, and Hallmark movies. Her sweet treats and home-cooked meals will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Marie had a memorable personality and was a social butterfly. She was known for her thoughtfulness, loyalty, independence, humor, intelligence, and quiet confidence. She enjoyed going to the market for fresh produce and running errands for others. Marie was always on the lookout for good deals and generously shared her thrifty finds, often making the deliveries herself.
In addition to her husband Lynn, Marie is survived by her sons Jeff (Dawn) and Jim, grandchildren Christine (Ross), CJ (Aleigh), and Addison (14), and great-grandchildren Zoe (6), Cale (5), Ivy (3), and Beau (2). She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Oscar Leslie, parents-in-law James and Eva Stewart, and her firstborn son Timothy Stewart.
Marie dedicated her career to various food service positions at local Tacoma businesses, including Downing Elementary, Bimbo's, Viafore's Deli, and Metropolitan Market Deli. Her hard work and dedication in the food industry left a lasting impact on the community.
