Marie Johnson Evans' Obituary
Marie Evans passed away October 1, 2021, from natural causes due to kidney disease. Marie was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Cambridge MA to George and Bernice Johnson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Hector and one sister, Phyllis. She is survived by her sister, Hazel Mollica of Ipswich, MA and her children, Karen (Edward) Hallac of London, UK; Bruce (Cheryl) Evans of Vancouver, WA; Susan (Dwayne) Aaron of DuPont, WA; Nancy (Robert) Kaplan of Millerton, NY; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Marie grew up in Medford MA and married her husband Hector in 1952. Hector became a career USAF officer and they enjoyed 50 years together until his untimely, accidental death in 2002. They traveled the world enjoying assignments in Western Europe, Guam, and many stateside locations, retiring to Fountain Hills, AZ before relocating to Washington State in 2001 to be near two of their four children.
A prolific quilter, Marie created and gifted many that will be enjoyed for years by family and friends lucky to receive them. She also enjoyed baking pies and making jams and jellies – surely to be missed. Marie was an avid sports fan and enjoyed talking sports with anyone who would listen, especially if the subject were “her” Nebraska Cornhuskers or Boston Red Sox. She enjoyed puzzles and card games with friends and family showing her happy and competitive spirit.
In recent years Marie was an active, contributing member of her church, All Saints Episcopal in Tacoma as well as the Society of Military Widows and the Associated Retired Officers Wives.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 in the morning on October 28, 2021, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 205 E 96th St., Tacoma WA 98445. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Marie’s church.
