Marie Catherine Ivan's Obituary
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 12, 1922, and died in Tacoma on March 28, 2007 at the age of 84. She was a Tacoma resident for almost 20 years. She graduated from Queens College, where she started a sorority, edited the yearbook, and also wrote poetry. A lifelong educator, she earned a Master,'s degree from Kean College, and taught remedial reading for both primary and secondary school. She wrote poetry for most of her life, and was published locally and nationally.She was also known as Ree Cie by her poet friends, and she had been active in the Tacoma Writers,' Club. She was a regular participant in her Poet Crafters group.She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1986. Her greatest achievement, she said, was her four children and six grandchildren. She is survived by daughters Linda Noe and Dru (Tom) Kepler, sons Andrew (Marie) Neiditz, and John Ivan; as well as grandchildren Tyler, Nicole, Elliot, Devin, Cori, and Benn. She will be missed by her family.She was a resident of Tacoma Lutheran Home for the last several years, and she was extremely appreciative of the very supportive staff there. A prayer service for friends and family will be held in the chapel at Tacoma Lutheran Home at 1:30pm on April 4th.
