Marie Caroline Gonter's Obituary
Marie Caroline Gonter Haase Freeman was born June 29, 1919 at the house of her grandparents, Louis and Marie Gonter, prominent hop grower in the Puyallup Valley.She was the daughter of Ben and Nellie, hop growers too. Marie traveled with her family in the summer to Canada and in the winter to Mexico where her Dad raced his race horses.When the depression started in 1929, the race horse business was not very profitable, so Marie had to work on the hop farm, instead of traveling. She attended 8 years of schooling at Alderton School, and finished her schooling at Sumner High School. Marie was very intelligent and had an exceptional memory up to the last. Marie played the piano and could have gone professional playing the piano. Marie married Fred Haase in 1936 and together they had three children. Larry was the first born in 1937, and had a business in California when he died in 1969. Their daughter Betty Marie Haase-Trueluck was born in 1939, and became a registered nurse and retired. She is 67 years old, living in Orlando, Florida. Betty Marie has two children, Phyllis Louise Trueluck, age 47, and a registered nurse, living in Orlando, Florida. Her second daughter is Anne-Marie Trueluck Gatten, who is a registered nurse, age 46, living in Scottsdale, Arizona. Their third child Stella Louis Haase Graves was born in 1941, worked for the city of Redmond, WA and is retired living in Phoenix, Arizona. Kristi Marie Graves Banning, a daughter of Louise and a granddaughter of Marie, lives between Scottsdale, AZ and Everett, WA. She is 46 and a business owner in Everett, WA. A grandson, John Frederic Graves, age 44, and is in the Banning family business in Everett, WA. A great-grandson, Bryan John Banning is in the family business at age 23, living in Marysville, WA; great-grandson, Kevin Joy Banning, who is 19 and in the family business, lives in Everett, WA; great-grandson, Cameron Banning, age 17, is a student, living in Scottsdale, AZ; great-granddaughter, Heather Louise Graves aged 23, lives in Kirkland, WA; great-grandson, David Graves, age 17, is a student, living in Everett, WA; great-granddaughter, Whitney Graves, age 13, a student, is said to be an image of her great-grandmother Marie. Marie had many medical problems in her mid-life. Today,'s drugs would have helped Marie get well. She met and married a retired railroad worker, Roy Freeman, who was known to be a perpetual talker, and Marie allowed it because he was good company. Marie seemed to be happy up to the time Roy died. Marie read a lot of books, watched TV, played cards, and was always good for good conversation. If she was lonely, she never showed it. The last eleven years that she stayed with Helen Aaron, Marie seemed happy. She was given excellent care by Helen, and her family gives special thanks to her.Marie had two sisters, Betty Gonter Gearon and Doris Moody Clifford, both deceased. Marie had an older brother, Bern who is deceased. Marie is survived by two brothers, Karl Robert Gonter, and wife Mary of Lakewood, WA, and Gary F. Gonter of Lakewood, WA. All three will miss Marie.In fact, anyone who knew Marie is going to miss her as they reminisce through the years. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, who along with all her family, wish Marie a happy trip, her last! God Bless her.After 62 years Marie is back. Today her body will be laid to rest nearby her Mother and Dad, sister and several other relatives. Took a long time, but Marie is back to stay.
