Margaret Thrasher's Obituary
Margaret Thrasher closed her eyes today to be with the Lord in his Kingdom. Margaret is a kind and gentle person who believed in Christ as our Savior. God chose Margaret for His Kingdom. She shared her love and talents on this Earth for almost 90 years – and the beneficiaries were and continue to be her family, her many students, and friends through the years.
Margaret learned to love her family growing up in Gould, OK. While coming from a fairly prominent family, she toiled at growing cotton and other crops, became an accomplished vocalist at school and in her church, and played the piano expertly. Mostly however, Margaret learned a profound love of God and her family. Both of these attributes would mold her into the wonderful woman that she was to become.
Margaret shared life with her husband of 70 years, Jim Thrasher. Together, they were the personification of “the greatest generation”. During World War II, she continued her college education at Oklahoma Baptist University. Margaret earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Montana in Missoula - an amazing accomplishment earned by few women in 1967.
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Margaret and Jim added four children to their family – daughter Ann, and sons James, Martin, and David. Margaret provided a stable and nurturing home environment for her family as well as being an exemplary role model for 12 grand children and 15 great grand children.
Margaret’s life resounded with the joy of teaching children to read, to play musical instruments, and to sing. The number of her students cannot be counted. We can only imagine the warmth, accessibility, and caring that she provided for so many children through decades of running educational programs. Her faithfulness to children and learning will endure for generations. As a special remembrance of Margaret, it would lift her heart if each of us would take the time to read a book with a child today.
Margaret was steadfast in her obedience to God and has always been in His Kingdom. We wish Margaret the same prayer that she would offer for us from Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you ; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
