Margaret Melvin's Obituary
Margi Melvin, lifelong Tacoma area resident, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024 surrounded by the caring and loving staff of The Weatherly Inn where she has been a resident for the past 2 years.
Margi was born on March 20, 1927 in Tacoma General Hospital. She was the third child of Alexander "Ted" and Margaret Hall Fullindwider. She attended Washington Grade School, Mason Junior High and was a proud 1945 graduate of Stadium High School. She met and later married John Douglas Melvin on April 20, 1946. They were blessed with 2 beautiful children, Doug in 1947 and Peggy in 1950. They lived at Dash Point for their early married years, where they enjoyed the benefits of living close to the water. They owned 2 Chris Craft boats over the years, Malboa I and Malboa II. Many family adventures and memories were made while cruising the Puget Sound and the Straights of Juan De Fuca.
In the early 1960's Margi and John joined forces with his brother Ed and wife Charlotte to develop and build Nisqually Park Recreation Properties on land that had been homesteaded by Margi's grandfather, who was the first Superintendent of Mount Rainier National Park. They enjoyed the mountain life for many years and eventually moved down closer to Tacoma, where Margi played a lot of golf with the women at the Yelm Golf Course. They also traveled with friends towing their trusty Jayco RV to many Air Shows around the Southwest and Yuma area. After John Passed away in 2008, Margi and her sister Mary continued to travel to Yuma for the winter months where they enjoyed playing golf and shopping sprees into Mexico. Margi moved to her Bristol Court Condo in the north end of Tacoma in 2009 where where she enjoyed the close friendship of her neighbors. After moving to The Weatherly Inn in 2022, the Condo ladies continued to include her in the biweekly card games and taking her shopping.
Margi was preceded in death by her son Doug in 1974, her daughter Peggy in 2005, her husband John in 2008 and her sisters Mary Scoggin and Louise Landon and nephew Lorne Scoggin. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Linda (Gary) Leach, Carl (Kris) McMahan, Marty (Kimberly) McMahan, Caren (Carroll) Speich, Mark McMahan, Rick (Kim) Melvin, Jan (Rob) DiEllo, Grandson Travis (Melissa) Smith, 1st Cousin Burke (Mary) Garrett, many great nieces and nephews and special friends Paul and Connie Henderson, Les and Bonnie Hodgkiss, Ruth La Franchi and Corky and Bill Harper. She was a feisty little soul loved by a lifelong circle of friends and family. She will be forever missed.
We will notify family and friends of the date for her Celebration of Life and internment with her Husband and Children to be held in Tacoma in the Spring.
