Margaret Jane Aldag's Obituary
Margaret Saurer Aldag
Nov. 28, 1917 - Aug. 12, 2011
Margaret Saurer Aldag was born Nov. 28, 1917 in Bluffton, IN to Alfred and Nettie Saurer. "Margo" studied at Western College for Women in Oxford, OH and completed her B.S. in Biology and her M.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition at Purdue University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and was selected for Mortar Board. Following graduation, she began her career at Kraft Foods in Chicago, working beside the director of the experimental kitchens. While at Purdue, Margo met Robert Aldag Jr. (Bob), and they were married in 1944 and enjoyed 55 years of marriage until Bob's death in 2000. Bob and Margo had three children, Robert III, Catherine, and Julie. The Aldag family moved several times as Bob's railroad career and then his positions at Beloit Corporation took them from LaGrange, IL to Beloit, WI, Portland, OR, Montreal, Canada, and, finally, Toyko, Japan, before Bob and Margo began their retirement in Lakewood, WA in 1987. Margo enjoyed the wonderful friends she made with each move and remained in touch with them over the years. She was a devout Christian who enjoyed serving the church in numerous ways. Her lifelong interests included gardening, entertaining, P.E.O. (64-year member), cooking, music, and the arts. Her greatest joy came from her husband, her children, and their families. She offered a warm and comfortable home, and a heartfelt welcome was felt by all who entered her house. Margo was predeceased by her parents, her sister Catherine, and husband Robert. Survivors include son Robert (Ferial), daughters Catherine Garner and Julie Crawford (John), grandchildren Alana and Lara Aldag, Sarah (Tingey), Anna and William Garner, and John, Charles and David Crawford. The family is grateful for the compassionate and respectful care Margo received at Laurel House Assisted Living in Tacoma during the final year of her life. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at The Little Church on the Prairie, 6310 Motor Avenue SW, Lakewood, WA 98499. Remembrances may be made to the General Endowment Fund of The Little Church on the Prairie or to a favorite charity.
