Margaret Louise Bofenkamp-Hampson's Obituary
Margaret Louise Bofenkamp-Hampson passed away peacefully at her home in Lakewood, Washington on November 2, 2022 at the age of 89.
Margaret is pre-deceased by her first husband of 22 years, Larry Bofenkamp, and her younger sister, Carol Ray. She is survived by her husband of 38 years Melvin Hampson; children Mark Bofenkamp and his wife Ann, Jan (Bofenkamp) Calkins and her husband Blair, Ben Hampson and his wife Kerry, and Rachael (Hampson) Palo and her husband Dave; six grandchildren, Matthew Bofenkamp, Braxton and Dane Calkins, Charles Hampson, and Miranda and Wren Palo; as well as her constant companion, Pretty Kitty.
Born in 1933 in King City, California to Felix and Helen, Margaret grew up in Crescent City, California. She earned her degree in education at Humboldt State University. As a primary school teacher, she taught mostly kindergarten for over 45 years to over 1,500 students completing two distinct teaching careers. She taught in Sunnyvale and Pleasant Hill, California while residing in Concord, Sunnyvale and Lafayette. Once in Lakewood, Washington, she primarily taught at the Clover Park School District’s Southgate and Tillicum elementary schools until she retired at age 68 in 2001.
Quilting, gardening, education and family time were her passions. She will be lovingly remembered for her consistently kind spirit, high energy, encouragement to do one’s best and her love of family by the thousands of people whose lives she touched.
The service will be held on Monday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery Visitation Chapel at 5212 70th Street W. in Tacoma followed by her Celebration of Life at The Bair Bistro located at the The Bair Drug and Hardware heritage building at 1617 Lafayette Street in Steilacoom.
