Marc was the first friend I made in Seattle when I moved here for grad school in 1994. We were in the same program at UW and I will always remember his kindness and inclusiveness to a new person in town. There are many places, movies, songs, games, and activities that have always reminded me of that time and of Marc and always will. We lost touch during his time away from Washington but had recently reconnected, and I’m very sad that our time to catch up was cut short. Marc was a unique individual in the good kind of way and I’ve never known anyone else like him. Sending my deepest condolences to Marc’s friends and family.

I knew Marc at Bowdoin college. I did not know that he had passed. We have been out of touch for many years. I hope I am thinking of the right person but from Deborah's description I think so. Mark was a brilliant artist and a very kind and gentle person and unafraid to be different. He was the one person that I felt comfortable approaching for a favor and he took me to a local small wine store to buy wine for a party to celebrate the opening of my senior exhibit when I was a student. That was a big deal to me because I did not have a car. He was one of the few people I knew to live off campus and cut his own path ! He did some very complex works to senior year around themes and Steinbeck's East of Eden. I can't believe he's gone I always thought I would see him again as the song says by James Taylor ! I have lost a friend and a mentor. He and I shared a studio space my senior year and I remember being so annoyed with him because he would take colors for my painting box without asking. But that was Mark he knew that I would have let him borrow anything had I been there. He was a good friend.

To my much-loved and long-time friends, the Seferian family, I send my deepest condolences. Marc was so gifted and unique. I'll always remember him as a child - his bright spirit, his affectionate personality. As I followed him through later life, I appreciated his intelligence and his artistic talents. Our paths did not often cross as time went on, but we met once, with Jan, in the courtyard of the Rodin museum in Paris. A special memory.

To the family that is left behind at his passing, I send my love.
