Mandel Jarvis Abernathy's Obituary
Mandel Jarvis Abernathy, 57, of Tacoma, WA, lovingly known as Diesel, passed away September 13, 2015. Born March 2, 1958 in Columbia, Tennessee, he was retired from the Postal Service and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Preceding him in death are his parents Johnny Childress and Sally Mai Jones and his grandmother Eddie Mai Abernathy who raised him.
Mandel is survived by his partner Lisa Boerger, his daughter Latoya Abernathy, son Mandel Jarvis Moran Jr, daughters Jada Abernathy, Jacqlyn (Gracie) Kidder, brother Jawara Jones, extended family Amanda and Jason Boerger, grandchildren Evan, Brynne, Aurora and numerous other relatives.
Mandel was described by those close to him as loyal, wise, funny, caring, brutally honest yet sensitive. He had a magnetic personality and many good friends. He loved Jazz, R&B and had a huge collection of music. You could always find him in the kitchen making a southern dish or some other spicy concoction. In his play time he loved riding his bike with his crew, smoking cigars and fishing with his close friends Tim Bloomfield and Marshall Williams.
Mandel was a member of and rode proudly with the Unknown Soldiers Motorcycle Club. One of his greatest adventures was a trip around the country on his GoldWing where he and his friend James Walker (JAWS) touched San Diego, California, Key West, Florida, Bangor, Maine and Blaine, Washington, the four geographical corners of the contiguous United States.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Valley Chapel, Lakewood, Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/tribnet/obituary.aspx?n=mandel-abernathy&pid=175884218&fhid=23431#sthash.xLvQmZn0.dpuf
