Mae Ethel Chavez's Obituary
Mae E. Chavez Oct. 11, 1919 - Oct. 26, 2008 Born to Charles and Inez Minard in Bridgewater, South Dakota. Mom was a farm girl. She grew up in a small town Oakes, North Dakota. As children, we were able to take our road trips back to the farm each summer and enjoy a little of what made mom, mom. She followed her sister out to Tacoma to help with the war effort doing clerical work at Ft. Lewis, met our father and settled down. One of her favorite pastimes was dancing and when mom and dad hit the dance floor, everyone watched. The Jitterbug was their dance...and they were good. She is survived by her two daughters Gail Willis (Gary), Connie Chavez, and son James; four grandchildren, Todd Carbone (Tammy), Joe Carbone (Sommer), Ben Lemcke (Michelle) and Gretchen Giese (Mark) and nine great grandchildren. She enjoyed a wonderful life surrounded by her family and all of her friends. She made everyone happy and was always the life of the party. Mae loved travelling to Mexico, river rafting in Oregon and tons of road trips. Mom's hat collection was one-of-a-kind, from classy to glitzy and she was rarely seen without wearing one. She will be missed by everyone who ever knew her. Graveside service in the Garden of Hope Friday, Oct. 31st, 11:30 at Mountain View Memorial Park, with a gathering following at the cemetery. We will miss you, Grandma Mae Hasta La Vista, Mom.
