Lois Waller Mitchell
Mable Lois Waller was born to Rose Lee Key and Earl Otis Waller on August 30, 1919 in Chandler, Oklahoma and went to her heavenly home at age 93 on July 10, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV. From mother Rose Lois learned the family crafts of quilting, knitting, crochet and other needlepoint arts. As a child she enjoyed visiting her grandmother and grandfather on the Waller family farm with her brothers and sister.
New Year’s Day 1939 she married her sweetheart Lewis Clifton Mitchell. They had 3 sons, Andrew, Bruce, and Glenn. In 1945 their family relocated to Tacoma, WA when Lewis got a job working for Tacoma City Light. Life revolved around “her boys”; keeping them out of mischief. (The three boys were famous for mischief making on South Stevens Street.)
Lois was an active member of Manitou Park Presbyterian Church and held the office of Worthy Matron in the Order of Eastern Star Warren Chapter, Tacoma, Grand Chaplain (WA) and life-time membership. During the 1960’s and 70’s she was office manager for Dr. Calvin Lantz.
Many beautiful handmade birthday and Christmas gifts were skillfully crafted by Lois for her husband, children, OES Bazaars, and as a doting grandmother, “Nana”, for her grand and later, great-grandchildren: Needlepoint samplers, knitted Christmas stockings, doilies, and quilts still in use today.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 57 years, Lewis C. Mitchell (d.1996), sons Andy “Mitch” Mitchell (d.2011), Bruce “Red” Mitchell (d.1992) infant sister, Pansy Lee and brother, J.C. Waller.
She is survived by son Glenn Mitchell of Mt. Vernon, WA and his daughters Katareeya “Michelle” Aldridge (Chad) and their sons Gavin and Cayden Clear Lake, WA, and Gail Bruder (Jon) and their children Anthony London, Kaiya and Kaylynne, Mt. Vernon, WA, Daughter-in-law Cherie Mitchell Murchie, Enumclaw, WA and her children, Patricia Haven (Scott) and their children Carson Johnson, Melaina Johnson and Matrix, Buckley, WA and Philip Mitchell (Shannon) and their children Gracie Lynne and Lucas, Vancouver, WA., Shireen Berg (Vicki) and her children Brandon Wrigley, Kristina Smith, and Kasea Berg, Anthem, AZ, Colleen Jaussaud and her children, Brittani, Amanda and Colton, Selah, WA, Daughter-in-law Sundae Webb Mitchell, Las Vegas, NV, brother, Benny Waller, Checotah, OK, sister, Lorene Summers, Seal Beach, CA. and one great-great-granddaughter.
A private family graveside service was held at Liberty Bell Court, Mt. View Cemetery, Tacoma, WA., on August 15, 2013.
