Mable A. Banks' Obituary
Born February 23, 1955 in Lawton, OK to Josephine Bailey and Warren Crookshank. In Mable early years, she attended Dunbar Elementary. At a young 10 years old, Mable traveled with her family to Nuremberg, Germany US Army Base where her stepfather Ruben Bailey Sr. was stationed in 1966. After leaving Germany, Mable and her family arrived in Tacoma, WA in 1969 where she attended Jason Lee Middle School and in 1973 graduating from Stadium High School. In 1975, a day before her 20th birthday, Mable gave birth to her son Damon Quarles (Zack Quarles) in Tacoma, WA. She then moved to Washington D.C. working in various government positions one being an administrative assistant at the treasury department. Mable then left Washington D.C. and moved back to Lawton, OK with her son Damon to be closer to her Oklahoma family where she assisted in taking care of her Aunt Carrie. Mable returned to Tacoma in 1980 and in 1981 gave birth to Michael Dunlap Jr. (Michael Dunlap Sr.).
Mable was blessed with various of skills. She worked throughout Tacoma area such as Park Rose, Tacoma Urban League, Tacoma News Tribune and Emerald Queens. Most of all, Mable was a talented hair dresser to many in Tacoma and abroad. During these times, Mable cultivated long time friendships with her clientele. Which many loved and cherished her gift.
Mable loved wearing cheetah and leopard print clothing and accessories. She was a huge college football fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, she enjoyed watching the game show channel and playing BINGO!
She will be remembered as a warm heart, infectious spirit and beautiful smile. She had a way in making everyone feel seen. We will miss the comfort in being in her presence.
Mable is survived by her two sons Damon and Michael. Her four grandchildren; Carissa Barnick, Kiarah Quarles, Malique Quarles and Xavier Quarles. Her 6 sisters and 2 brothers; Barry Banks (Kathleen Banks), Jessie Banks, Corlin Thomas, Ruben Bailey Jr. (Dottie), Gwendolyn Everett, Barbara Dudley (Leo Dudley Sr.) Teresa Bartholomew (Joe), Terrie Bailey and Celetine Bailey. Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
