Mabel Grace Volz's Obituary
Mabel "Mae" Grace Volz
In His great mercy, God called Mabel Grace Volz to her eternal heavenly home on June 4, 2008, in Yakima, WA, at the age of 96. Mae was born August 3, 1911, in Rockingham County, VA, to George and Minnie Fulk of Fulks Run, VA. She grew up on a farm and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a teenager. As a young woman, she graduated from cosmetology school, but then went to work as a waitress at the George Mason Hotel restaurant in Alexandria, VA. While in Alexandria, she met Fred Volz, a G.I. from Portland, OR, stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA. They were married in 1940 and spent 53 wonderful years of marriage until Fred's death in 1993. In 1942, they had their only son, Arthur. As the wife of a career military officer, Mae enjoyed seeing much of the U.S. and Europe. She enjoyed bowling and traveling, but the joy of her life was gardening and flower arranging. For many years, she was a member of the Tacoma Garden Club and Lake City Community Church, where she used her gifts and talents to provide flower arrangements for Sunday services and other events using the beautiful flowers from her garden. She will always be remembered, not only as a devoted wife and mother, but also as one who quietly and graciously desired to help and serve others. Mae was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her son, Rev. Arthur Volz, and wife, Arlee, of Yakima, WA; two grandchildren, Dr. Jonathan Volz, and wife, Marta, of Grandview, WA, and Julee Volz Tibbetts, and husband, Dean, of Duvall, WA. Two great grandsons, Cody and Blake Tibbetts, of Duvall, one sister-in-law, Miriam Wolfe, of McMinnville, OR, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive her. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., in the Mountain View Aspen Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, with a committal service immediately after in the Memorial Park. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Lake City Community Church Building Fund, 8810 Lawndale Ave. SW, Lakewood, WA 98498.
