Mabel Gartner's Obituary
Mabel, 96, was born on February 6, 1912 in Edmore, N.D. She was the youngest and ninth child of Ole and Helene Barstad. She passed away on January 14, 2009 in Tacoma, Washington.
In 1934 she married Michael Gartner and they were together for 63 years. They moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1941. Mabel worked at Boeing's Tacoma plant during the war. She later went to work at the St. Regis bag plant where she stayed for over twenty years.
She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she was one of the quilting ladies for many years. Mom dearly loved making those quilts.
Mabel is survived by her daughters, Marlys Elliott and Carol Ameline, six grandchildren Harley Levtzow, Kristine Whipple, Glenn Levtzow, Richard Allie, Lana Hammer, and Cheryl Wattier, 13 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael (1998), granddaughter Leanne Harmon (1995), brothers Emil, Henry, Albert, Clarence, Ingvald, and Orvin Barstad, and sisters Sophia Rundhaugh and Annie Monson.
Viewing will be held from 1:00-9:00, Saturday, January 17, 2009and from 8:00-12:00, Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Mountain View Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 18, 2009.
