Mabel Clara Teo's Obituary
Just before dawn Easter Sunday morning, Mabel was able to Â"go homeÂ" into the arms of Jesus after her long journey on this earth. For nearly six years she battled breast cancer; and with her faith in God faced the cancer head on, keeping it at bay many times.Pastor Mabel ministered to many people in the Pacific Northwest. As a member of the Yakima Indian Nation, she preached at a number of Indian reservations, believing that God was the answer because she knew him personally.Mabel was preceded in death by her father, mother, three brothers, an only sister, and her husband of 60 years, Vernon Washington, Sr. who died from complications of prostate cancer on April 19, 1999.Mabel is survived by her seven children: Frank (Francine), Vernon, Jr. (Lola), Irene (the patient caretaker), Judy (Jerry Wilkins), Roslynne (David Reed), Daniel, and Stella (Maxie Fields, Jr.); ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two younger brothers, John and Raymond Teo, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.The family wishes to thank MabelÂ's oncologist Dr.Jay Zatzkin for his patience and good humor, which helped Mabel considerably, Dr. Alan Shelton for his care, Dr. Steven Hammer for his skill in surgery which helped in extending MabelÂ's life, and the staff at Tacoma General Hospital whom the family came to know through the many required visits and stays for treatment. The funeral service will be Friday, April 16, 2004 at 10am at the Squaxin Island Tribal gymnasium in Kamilche (Shelton, WA) followed by burial at Mountain View Memorial Park in Tacoma, WA.
