Ever since I could remember, my family and I always referred to Grandma Lut as "Mommy". To family as well as friends, she's famous for her hearty home-cooked meals and fresh baked goodies. I don't know how many people actually knew how late she stayed up or how early she woke up to make all the wonderful meals she made and still went to work. And she had abundant hugs and kisses, and insistent desire to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Whenever she came to visit us in the Philippines, she always had a doll for me. But Mommy could be feisty too. When I was being naughty (very rare), she did not hesitate to give me spanking. When we got to the US, I remember she'll pinch me and insist on cooking all my favorite foods :-) Mommy was very supportive and proud of her grandkids too. Whenever I called her, she used to tell me how proud she was of me for serving in the military. When I became a Nurse, she was so happy and proud too. Times spent at grandma's house were often marked by love, laughter, and contentment. She was old fashion in many ways and somewhat superstitious but she made me laugh and I learned a lot from her. Now that I'm older, I sometimes smile when I find myself doing/saying something that reminds me of something Mommy would have done/said. Mommy was often responsible for bringing the whole family together to include great Aunts and cousins. Every Sunday seems like Thanksgiving at her house. I'm grateful I was able to do the "Walk to End Alzheimers" as a special tribute for Mommy a year ago. I hope to do another one upon return from deployment in her memory. I will be running a 5K this Mother's Day in her memory. Mommy was such a source of joy for all who knew her. She left us beautiful memories to treasure through the years. Rest in peace Mommy. We love you forever.
