Ludwig (Zach) Zachariah Kurian, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2024, at the age of 60. Zach was surrounded by his loved ones in his final moments. Born on June 11, 1964, in Bonn, Germany, Zach was the cherished son of Zachariah and Rosamma Kurian. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sue; his children, Alysa, Zachary, and Marisa; his parents, Zachariah and Rosamma; his father-in-law, Evaristo; his older sister, Ray, and her husband, Francois; his younger sister, Marina, and her children, Kavi and Kiran; and his brother-in-law, Everett, and his wife, Jean-Marie, and their children, Owen and Declan.
Zach’s journey began in Germany, but in 1967, he and his family moved to their ancestral home in Kerala, India. Four years later, they relocated to New York, where Zach spent much of his childhood. He pursued his passion for aviation by studying Aeronautical Engineering at Parks College of St. Louis University, with aspirations to become a fighter pilot. Though his dreams were thwarted by his towering height, Zach’s adventurous spirit led him to Lakewood, Washington, in 1985. During his first 2 ½ years in Lakewood, Zach lived with his Uncle John and Auntie Manorama Zachariah while attending Bates Technical College for TV Broadcasting and serving in the Washington Air National Guard. In 1986, he met his future wife, Sue, while working at a small video store in Lakewood. Known for his versatility and skills, Zach found employment at the Container Corporation of America alongside his father-in-law and later settled into a long and fulfilling career with The Boeing Company in 1998. Over his 26 years at Boeing, he worked as an airplane mechanic and fuel cell assembler, impressing his coworkers with his ability to fit into the tiniest spaces despite his large frame.
Zach and Sue were married in 1995 and celebrated 29 years of marriage. They were blessed with three children: Alysa, Zachary, and Marisa, who brought immense joy to Zach's life. His dedication to his family was evident in the time he spent with them, whether on family trips, getaways to the casino with Sue, or enjoying new restaurants. An avid car enthusiast and foodie, Zach took great pleasure in barbecuing for his friends and family, proudly dubbing himself the "BBQ King." Zach’s vibrant spirit, kindness, infectious laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends will be remembered fondly. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched.
