Lucy May (Solomon) Emsley
Born at home in Yelm, WA on May 12, 1943. And died in Puyallup, WA, on 01/27/2026.
Before Lucy was born, her father knew she would be a girl. And her name would be Tootsie. So, he planted Carrots to come up spelling the name Tootsie. Later Tootsie became a nickname. And she became Lucy. She was named after her mother’s stepmother lucy may
Lucy moved into the Midland area around the age of 3, when her parents bought a small gas and grocery store on the corner of 99th and Poke street which later became 22nd st East.
Lucy attends Harvard elementary and Midland school. She was the last class to attend the old 4 room Midland School before they tore down the old school and added a new section to Midland schools’ junior high section, where she graduated in June 1957. After grade school lucy moved on and attended Franklin Pierce High School where she graduated from in June of 1961. She was about 5th or 6th Class to graduate from there.
After school she worked at the old original Tacoma General hospital's dietary department as a diet aid. Later she landed a more steady job at the old Lakewood General Hospital in Lakewood, she worked there until she married Kendell brown. And the two of them moved to Omak WA to live. They had a daughter by the name of Julie ann. In 1965 ken and lucy divorced. Lucy managed to get her old job back at the hospital in Lakewood. There she worked until she feels in love with a young Simpson timber logger by the name of bill. They married on July 3rd, 1969, which was Lucy’s mom and dad’s wedding anniversary also. They honeymooned at Ocean Shores, WA. Lucy continued to work at Lakewood general hospital until little bill was born on 9/10/1970 with cerebral palsy and grand mall seizures Billy needed much care that only Lucy could give him. Bill helps in between workloads. They both lived in the Tacoma area for almost 18yrs.
After Lucy quit her job, her and Bill decided to take in foster children. They cared for 5 different foster children/teens/ adults from 2 yrs of age up to 28 yrs of age.
Bill and lucy later moved to southill area of Puyallup wa were they lived more than 20 yrs.
They were both very involved in marriage encounters and church.
In 1978, Lucy gave birth to another girl named Tami Marie.
Lucy was involved in rex (religious education for the disable taught on a non-denomination at st johns of the woods catholic church in midland area.
Lucy worked at Dieringer Middle School for a while as a paid teacher aid. Later she did a lot of volunteer work in her children’s different schools, between Tacoma, Puyallup, and Kent. She even gave time toward tutoring other children on a volunteer basis. Later she got a degree in home schooling and her hands into doing that also.
Lucy was involved with pave and became quite an advocate for the handicap. She volunteered every chance she could in helping the handicap achieve to their fullest potential.
Lucy was quite involved in prayer group, emergency prayer lines, and bible study groups.
Her and bill celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 3rd, 1994.
Lucy is proceeded in death by her son bill jr. lucy is survived by her husband bill Emsley sr. her to daughters. Julie Ann (brown) Conkle of Tonasket and her husband and Lucy’s son-n-law, George and their children and lucy’s grandchildren Renee Nicole and Scott Robert fry of Tonasket wa and Tami Marie and her great grandchildren Preston Michael, scout fry, Neela fry, and soon to be Elijah fry.
Lucy will reside in the kingdom of God and live in heaven and walk the streets of gold with her lord and savior Jesus Christ.
She will be remembered by her family as always being involved with special children and adults and working with elderly, and she loved putting puzzles together, and going to the beach, and talking on the phone.
